Transitional Housing

The Bonner County Homeless Task Force has provided Transitional Housing to homeless families since 1994. Blue Haven, located in Sandpoint, can house up to 9 families with children. The Blue Haven building was donated to us by Panhandle State Bank.

The Trestle Creek Friendship Center was opened in 2002 providing 3 bedroom, 2 bath homes for homeless families with children. Trestle Creek also provides a beautiful 4 bedroom home for single women. Known as Holland House, each woman receives her own bedroom and bathroom and shares a common kitchen.

The Transitional Housing Programs provide families with a hand up. Each family receives an individual case plan and works with staff to set goals and work towards stability. Classes in parenting, budgeting, employment skills and life skills are provided throughout their stay in the program. Families can live in the program for up to two years. We also assist families with food, clothing, child care, transportation and other needs.

Harmony House Harmony House is a safe house for women and children fleeing domestic violence. The location of Harmony House is kept confidential in order to provide safety for the women and children. Victims using this program receive case management, counseling, domestic violence education, clothing, food and transportation. Children are assisted through the trauma of living with domestic violence. The program director provides numerous hours in our local schools to educate and assist children who may be living with domestic violence.

Domestic Abuse Education Program Statistics tell us that most of the time victims and abusers want to heal their families. The DAEP Program provides an opportunity for understanding the cycle of abuse and education for the abuser on the complexities of power and control. The courts are using this program to order offenders into treatment. This is a year long required program for those who are court ordered and holds the offender accountable for his/her actions.
